Tell your supervisor ASAP. Give a clear account of what happened and mention any co-workers or witnesses who saw it.
Check your union contract. Some employers might require you to see a company doctor first. Ask your union steward about the specific requirements.
Visit your doctor and say, "Today, [or the date of injury] I injured [specific body part] while lifting, falling, etc. at work." Even if it's an aggravation of a preexisting condition, make it clear that the new injury at work is causing the pain and disability. Remember, you can only choose two doctors, so if your primary care doctor refers you to a specialist, it still counts as one doctor. If you see Dr. A, then Dr. B, and then Dr. C, you'll have to pay for Dr. C.
Be cautious with third-party administrators and insurance adjusters. They might seem friendly, but they're there to save your employer money on claims.
